Projects

The Lens Media Lab is committed to the creation and dissemination of datasets for the study of art and artifacts. Over time, we anticipate adding resources to this page including data pertaining to the visual characteristics of prints made by notable photographers and physical and chemical markers from the LML Collection of Historic Photographic Papers.

TIPPs

TIPPs is a materials-focused database that allows users to explore the hundreds of photographic samples tipped into international photography journals and manuals published between 1855 and 1900.

Paper Texture Challenge

Texture images of silver gelatin and inkjet papers, these datasets are used to develop and evaluate algorithms for classifying papers by surface texture.

The Lens Media Lab Historic Photographic Papers Collection Backprinting Project

This is a catalogue of manufacturer printing (usually logo and brand information) applied to the reverse of photographic papers. This information can sometimes be useful in dating prints and identifying papers.
